Crime Log Disposition Definitions

The following is an explanation of the terminology used to complete the disposition security of the SUNY Niagara Crime Log.

Open Case: The case is currently being investigated by SUNY Niagara Public Safety.

Unfounded: The case is determined through investigation to be false or baseless. An offense neither occurred nor was attempted.

Referred to Department: The case is referred to the appropriate supervisory employee or the SUNY Niagara Human Resource Department. Those departments review the case and determine if disciplinary action will be initiated.

Referred to DOH: The case has been forwarded to the Director of Housing . The DOH is responsible for reviewing the case and for determining whether or not the student(s) involved will be charged with a violation(S).

Referred to NCSO: The case is being investigated by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.

Referred to NFPD: The case is being investigated by Niagara Falls Police Department

Referred to Outside Agency: The case is being investigated by a law enforcement agency other than the NCSO or NFPD. The specific agency will be identified in the disposition.

Closed. Referred to VPSS: The case has been forwarded to the Vice President of Student Services. The VPSS is responsible for reviewing the case and for determining whether or not the student(s) involved will be charged with a violation(S) of the Student Code of Conduct.

Closed. Public Space: Case occurred on public property within the campus boundaries. SUNY Niagara Public Safety Department did not investigate the case.

Closed. Off Campus Incident: Case occurred off campus and is not within the SUNY Niagara Public Safety’s jurisdiction.

Closed. Subject Barred: The subject(s) has been issued a Persona non grata which bars the subject from entering or accessing any College property. A violation of this bar may result in that person’s arrest for trespassing.

Closed. Subject Arrested: The subject(s) has been arrested by NCSO, NFPD, or another enforcement agency.

Closed. No Suspects or Witnesses: Case has no solvability.

Closed. No Identifiable Suspect: A description and/or video surveillance of the subject is available but positive identification of the subject has not been made.

Closed. Reclassified: The original incident report classification has been changed to accurately reflect the appropriate classification, based on the results of the investigation.

Closed. No Further Action: No further investigative action is required.
