Online Learning

SUNY Niagara offers a variety of flexible learning options including online, hybrid, blended, and hyflex courses. We also offer online programs and certificates.

Technology Requirements & Mobile Devices

SUNY Niagara Technology Requirements for Online, Hybrid, Blended, and Hyflex Courses:
You are required to have access to a broadband connection and a desktop or laptop computer/MAC, using a tablet or other mobile device may not have all of the functionality required for the course. In addition, check with your professor to make sure your available equipment is acceptable for each course you are taking. Some technology-related courses require the ability to download software, for example, Chromebooks do not allow the software to be downloaded. Make sure you are using a supported browser by visiting the SUNY Online help desk to check your  or contact Online Learning at onlinelearning@niagaracc.suny.edu.

Technology for Blended Courses – In addition to any technical requirements listed above, blended courses use Real-Time Technology, which means you will be required to log into a web conferencing tool like Zoom to participate in the live “synchronous” lecture classes.  To participate in the live lectures, you will need access to a webcam or built-in laptop camera and microphone. In most cases, you can download the Zoom app and participate using your tablet or smartphone.   Your instructor will provide you details on which web conferencing tool will be used for your blended “real-time technology” course.

Accessing Brightspace from a Smartphone or Tablet

Try the new and improved Brightspace Pulse App! You can complete quite a bit of your online course work through the app, but in many cases, you may not be able to complete all of your required course work through the app.

The Office of Online Learning highly recommends you still access Brightspace from your computer/laptop regularly as you will NOT be able to complete your entire online course from a smartphone. Be sure to log in at least three times a week from a computerǰlaptop.

Learn more information about the Brightspace App by visiting Brightspace Essentials for Learners Webpage.
